You drive on the highway with cruise control set at 60 mph. Heavy rain begins, and water starts to collect on the road. What should you do?
Correct answer: Turn off the cruise control and control your speed yourself.
Why
Hydroplaning happens when the tires ride on a layer of water and you lose steering. To reduce the risk, slow down, keep the tires at the correct pressure, and stay out of standing water. When your foot controls the speed, you can ease off the accelerator at once if the car starts to slide.
