You drive on a two-lane road with a double solid yellow center line. A slow truck is ahead of you, and you plan to turn left into a driveway soon. What does the line let you do?
Blue car A follows slow white pickup truck B on a two-lane road with double solid yellow center lines. A driveway is on the opposite side, ahead of A and before B. No turn or passing route appears.
Correct answer: You may not cross it to pass, but you may cross it to turn left into the driveway.
Why
Yellow center lines separate traffic that moves in opposite directions. A double solid yellow line means that drivers from both directions must not pass across it. Rhode Island law requires drivers to obey no-passing markings, and the manual lets you cross the lines only for a legal turn or an emergency. Before you turn left across the lines, yield to oncoming traffic.
