Your engine sputters and then stops while you drive at 45 mph in the right lane of a city street. The car is still rolling. What should you do first?
Correct answer: Shift to neutral and try to restart the engine while the car is still rolling.
Why
When the engine stops, the power steering stops helping you, so the steering wheel feels much heavier. Turn on the hazard flashers, and use the car's speed to roll to the shoulder or the curb. If the engine does not restart, stop there, raise the hood and call for help.
