Your exit is about 1 mile ahead on the right, and you drive in the left lane of a freeway with three lanes in your direction. How should you prepare for the exit?
A travels in the left of three freeway lanes; the card says the right-hand exit is about 1 mile ahead, and no lane-change route is shown. The separate deceleration lane and curved ramp form an exit layout labeled “Exit layout — not to scale”.
Correct answer: Move to the right lane early, signal, and slow down in the deceleration lane.
Why
The Rhode Island manual warns about velocitizing: after a long time at high speed, a safe ramp speed can feel very slow. Look at your speedometer as you leave the freeway, and reduce speed as you approach the exit. Signal each lane change at least 100 feet before you move.
