Light rain starts to fall after two weeks of dry, hot weather. What should you expect from the road surface in the first minutes?
Correct answer: It can be very slippery, because the water mixes with oil, rubber and dirt on the road.
Why
Braking distance is much longer on a wet road, because the tires have less traction. When rain starts after a dry spell, reduce your speed and increase your following distance at once, before you feel the car slide. Do not use cruise control in the rain: if the car hydroplanes, cruise control can make it go faster.
