On a wet curve, the rear of your car starts to slide to the right. What should you do?
Blue car A is on a wet two-lane curve with visible rain marks. Its front points left of its intended eastbound path, and a dark arrow at the rear depicts the rear sliding to the driver’s right, not a steering instruction.
Correct answer: Take your foot off the gas, keep it off the brake, and look and steer where you want to go.
Why
Most skids happen because the driver does not slow down enough for the road conditions. When the tires slide, any sudden input uses up traction that they need to grip again. Steer smoothly, and expect to make a few small corrections to the left and right. The best technique can differ for front-wheel, rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, so read your owner's manual before an emergency.
