At noon, light rain starts, and you turn on your windshield wipers. You can still see clearly for more than 500 feet. What does Rhode Island law require?
Blue car A travels on a two-way road in light daytime rain. An unmarked enlarged car detail shows its front and rear lamps; the card states that the wipers are on at noon and visibility remains greater than 500 feet.
Correct answer: Headlights, because they are required any time the wipers are on for rain, sleet or snow.
Why
Headlights in the rain are mainly for other drivers: they make your car much easier to see through spray and gray light. The wiper rule is easy to use, because you do not have to judge the 500-foot distance. Also check that your headlights, taillights and brake lights work; some lights are easier to check with a helper.
