Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive into an intersection on a green light. A car on the cross street runs its red light and comes straight toward the side of your car. What should you do?
A has started into a two-way intersection on green. Silver car B has passed its red-light stop line on the cross street and is heading toward A’s side. Enlarged signal details identify green for A and red for B. No evasive action is chosen in the question.
Correct answer: Brake or speed up quickly, whichever lessens the impact, and sound your horn
Why
A crash into the side of a car is dangerous, because the door is close to the people inside. The best action depends on where the other car will hit: speeding up can take you out of its path, and hard braking can let it pass in front of you. Before you change lanes or swerve, check the traffic around you, so that you do not cause a new crash. At every intersection, look left and right before you enter, also on a green light.
