Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
As part of scanning a highway, how far should you look during the distant part of your search?
A car travels on a highway with the road visible well beyond the nearest traffic toward the distance.
Correct answer: As far along the visible highway as you can see, toward the horizon.
Why
The distant part of a highway search means looking as far ahead along the road as visibility permits, toward the horizon. On a straight road that view can extend much farther than the nearest vehicles. Keep it part of a continuing search that also checks nearer road conditions, the sides and the space around your vehicle; do not fix your eyes on one distant point.
