Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
A follows B in good conditions. How should A use the fixed roadside post to measure the following interval?
Blue A follows silver B on a straight road with a fixed roadside post. B is well beyond the post and neither bumper is aligned with it.
Correct answer: Start when B's rear passes the post and stop when A's front reaches that post.
Why
Choose a fixed object beside or on the road. Start counting seconds when the rear bumper of the vehicle ahead reaches it, and stop when your front bumper reaches that same point. SGI recommends at least three seconds in ideal conditions. If the count is shorter, drop back and check again. Increase the interval when conditions are less than ideal or more room is needed.
