You have checked traffic several blocks ahead on a city street. What should you do about the area between your car and that distant view?
Correct answer: Check it often while you keep looking far ahead and to the sides.
Why
City driving needs both a far view and regular checks of the area closer to your car. Look ahead for traffic changes, sweep farther to each side and check the nearer gap more often than on an open highway. Other vehicles can block your view, and hazards can appear nearby. Keep moving your attention through the whole scene instead of staring at one car or traffic light.
