On a clear road with enough space for a normal stop, how should you use the brake pedal?
Correct answer: Begin early with light pressure, then ease up as the car stops.
Why
For normal braking, begin early and apply light pressure. Vary the pressure to control how quickly you slow, then ease it as the vehicle comes to rest. This is routine-stop guidance with adequate space. It is different from an emergency ABS stop, where the driver applies firm continuous pressure rather than releasing it when ABS operates.
