Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive on a two-lane road. The center line is a single broken yellow line with no solid line beside it. What does this marking tell drivers?
A travels on a two-lane road with one broken yellow center line and no solid yellow line beside it. The lane across the center line is empty.
Correct answer: Traffic moves in opposite directions, and drivers going either way may pass when it is safe.
Why
Yellow center lines always mean that the traffic on the other side of the line comes toward you. A broken yellow line marks a place where the road allows passing, but the line does not make a pass safe: you must still see that the oncoming lane is clear far enough ahead to finish the pass. South Carolina law also requires you to get back into your lane before you come within 200 feet of an oncoming vehicle.
