Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a two-lane road, double solid yellow lines separate you from oncoming traffic. The car ahead of you goes 10 mph below the speed limit. The road is straight, and you see no oncoming traffic. What do these lines mean for you here?
A follows silver car B on a straight two-lane road with double solid yellow center lines. The opposing lane is empty, and the card states that B travels 10 mph below the speed limit.
Correct answer: You may not cross them to pass, even when no oncoming traffic is in sight.
Why
Double solid yellow lines mark a stretch of road where a pass is too dangerous, often because of hills, curves, intersections or driveways that you cannot judge from behind another vehicle. The rule applies to drivers in both directions and at all times, even when the road looks empty. Be patient: wait until a broken yellow line is on your side and you can see that the oncoming lane is clear.
