Passing target: 80% (24/30)
In heavy traffic, you are following a large box truck so closely that you cannot see its side mirrors. What should you do?
A follows box truck B with a visibly very short bumper gap in heavy traffic. C remains ahead of B. The card states that A cannot see B’s side mirrors.
Correct answer: Drop back until you can see its side mirrors, because then the driver can see you.
Why
Large vehicles block your view of the road ahead, so you get less warning of a stop or a hazard. Increase your following distance behind trucks, buses, recreational vehicles and vehicles that pull trailers. A longer gap also lets you see around the vehicle before you decide to pass.
