Vehicle Safety, Documents & TowingStandalone practice
You tow a loaded utility trailer at highway speed. The trailer begins to sway from side to side. What should you do?
Correct answer: Hold the wheel straight and let the vehicle slow down gradually, without braking.
Why
A trailer that is not heavier in the front is a main cause of sway. After you stop, check that about 60 percent of the cargo weight is in the front, and reload if necessary. Drive more slowly when you tow; the manual gives 55 mph as the highest recommended speed for most vehicle-trailer combinations.
