On a two-lane highway, you come up behind a slow funeral procession. Its vehicles have their headlights and hazard lights on. What does South Dakota law allow you to do?
Blue A comes up behind silver procession vehicles B and C on a highway with one lane each way. Small white and amber light annotations and the card identify the procession’s headlights and hazard lights.
Correct answer: Follow behind it, and do not pass it or drive between any of its vehicles.
Why
On a road with two or more lanes in your direction, you may pass a procession on the left when it is safe. When a procession goes through an intersection with a police escort, do not enter unless you can do so without crossing its path. The manual also asks drivers not to cut into or interfere with a procession.
