One of the two headlights on your car burns out. The other headlight still works, and you must drive after dark tonight. What does Texas law require?
Front view of one blue passenger car. Its viewer-left headlamp is dark, and its viewer-right headlamp is illuminated white. The card states that one headlight has burned out and the other works.
Correct answer: Replace the bulb first; a car must have two working headlights, one on each side of the front.
Why
With only one headlight, other drivers can think that your car is a motorcycle and misjudge its width and position. Texas law requires at least two headlights, one on each side of the front, lit at night and when you cannot clearly see a person or vehicle 1,000 feet ahead. Your car must also have a beam indicator that shows when the high beams are on. Check that both headlights work before each night drive.
