Vehicle Safety, Documents & TowingStandalone practice
You drive a crew-cab pickup truck. A 40-year-old rides in the front seat, and a 16-year-old rides in the back seat. Each seat has a safety belt. Who must wear a belt?
Correct answer: You, the 40-year-old and the 16-year-old, because the rule covers every belted seat.
Why
Your chance of death is about five times greater if you are thrown from a vehicle, and belts also keep you from hitting the dashboard hard and help you keep control. A passenger 15 or older can get a ticket for not wearing a belt, and the driver can get a ticket for a passenger younger than 17 who is not secured. There are only a few legal defenses, for example a doctor's written statement for a medical reason.
