Your friend wants to add red LED lights to the front grille of his passenger car, so that they shine forward. Is this allowed in Texas?
Front of an ordinary blue passenger car with two standard white headlights illuminated and two small red LED modules in the grille shining forward. The card identifies the proposed red front lights without stating whether they are permitted.
Correct answer: No, because a passenger car may not show a red light to the front.
Why
Drivers expect red lights ahead to come from emergency vehicles or school buses, and red lights on a car to mark its rear. A red light at the front of an ordinary car can make drivers yield when they do not need to, or misjudge which way the car faces. Texas law stops red lights visible from the front except where the law allows them, for example on police and other emergency vehicles.
