Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You parallel park on a two-way street that has a curb. No local sign or ordinance changes the parking rule. Which position is correct?
A faces right in the travel lane of a two-way street beside a curb. The card says it is choosing a parallel-parking position; no parked inset appears.
Correct answer: Right wheels parallel to and within 12 inches of the curb, with the car facing the direction of traffic
Why
A car that is close to the curb leaves the full travel lane open for other vehicles and bicyclists. When you park in the direction of traffic, you do not cross the center line to park or to leave. Where there is no curb, the same 12-inch rule applies to the edge of the roadway. On a one-way street you may park next to either curb, but the car must face the direction of traffic.
