Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You look for a place to park at the curb. No sign forbids parking. Which of these spots does Vermont law allow?
Correct answer: 35 feet before a stop sign at the side of the road.
Why
Vermont law and the manual set minimum parking distances: 30 feet before a stop sign, flashing signal or traffic light, and 50 feet from the nearest rail of a railroad crossing, as well as 6 feet from a hydrant and 20 feet from a crosswalk at an intersection. These gaps keep signs and signals visible to other drivers and keep rail crossings clear. You also may not park on a bridge, on railroad tracks, on a sidewalk or in front of a driveway.
