You drive on a road with a signal above each lane. The signal above your lane changes to a steady red X. What should you do?
Blue car A travels in the left of two lanes. A steady red X hangs above that lane, and a green downward arrow hangs above the right lane. No route or lane change is drawn.
Correct answer: Leave this lane when it is safe and use a lane that is open
Why
Lane control signals are used on some roads and bridges where the direction of a lane can change, or where a lane is closed for work or a crash. Look ahead for these signals so that you have time to change lanes without a sudden move. Plan the move as for any lane change, and wait for a safe gap in the open lane.
