Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You drive on a part of I-89 with two lanes in your direction. You have just passed a slower car, and no sign gives other lane rules. Where should you drive now?
A has just passed silver car B and is in the left of two interstate lanes going right. B is farther back in the right lane.
Correct answer: Return to the right lane when it is safe, and use the left lane to pass
Why
When drivers keep right, faster traffic can pass on the left without weaving between lanes. A car that stays in the left lane makes other drivers pass on the right, which causes more lane changes and conflicts. Vermont law also requires a vehicle that moves slower than the normal speed of traffic to use the right-hand lane.
