Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You want to parallel park in an open space behind a parked car. After you check your mirror and signal right, where should you stop before you begin to back up?
Blue car A approaches an open parallel-parking space on its right. Silver B is parked ahead of the space and silver C behind it. A remains well behind the space, with no selected stopping position or distance marker.
Correct answer: Beside the car in front of the space, about 2 to 3 feet away from it.
Why
To begin parallel parking, signal right, stop alongside the vehicle in front of the space with about two to three feet between the cars, and shift to reverse. Check all around for traffic and pedestrians and look over your left shoulder before you back. Back slowly while you look through the rear window, steering fully right and then fully left, and then pull forward to center the car in the space.
