Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You approach an intersection where a power failure has left the traffic signals completely dark in every direction. What should you do?
Blue A and silver B approach a crossroads well before their stop lines. Every signal is dark after a power failure. Neither car is at a selected stopping point.
Correct answer: Stop fully, then go in turn as you would at an all-way stop.
Why
When a traffic signal is dark, as in a power outage, the manual tells drivers to stop as if there were stop signs in all directions. After the stop, use the all-way stop order: the first vehicle to stop goes first, and when two arrive together the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. A signal that flashes red or yellow is not dark, so obey the flashing signal, and always follow a police officer who directs traffic.
