You drive in the right lane of a road with two lanes in your direction. A bicyclist rides near the right edge of your lane. Your lane is too narrow to pass the bicyclist with the legal side clearance. What must you do?
A follows B in the right of two eastbound lanes. The cyclist is near the right edge and there is insufficient room to pass within the same lane.
Correct answer: Move to the left lane when it is safe, and then pass the bicyclist
Why
The three-foot rule also applies when you pass a moped, an electric power-assisted bicycle, an animal or an animal-drawn vehicle. After you pass, do not move back to the right until you are safely clear of the rider. Slow down near bicyclists and be ready to stop suddenly.
