The car ahead of you stops to turn left. On your right is a bicycle lane marked with a solid white line and a bicycle symbol. No bicyclist is in it now. What does Virginia law say about using the bike lane to pass the car?
A follows B, which has stopped to turn left. An empty bicycle lane on the right has a solid white line and official bicycle stencil.
Correct answer: You may not use it to pass, even when the lane is empty
Why
Bicycle lanes are marked by a solid or dashed white line or green pavement, and a bicycle symbol. You may enter a bike lane only when you must, to turn at a driveway or a street. Before you turn across it, check your mirrors and your blind spot, and yield to any bicyclist.
