Your car stalls on a railroad crossing, and you see a train coming toward the crossing. What should you do?
Blue A is stalled across a railroad track on a two-way road. A train approaches from the left. The exact U.S. crossbuck is on the right side of A’s approach. No person or escape route is shown.
Correct answer: Get out at once and move away from the tracks at an angle toward the train
Why
A train cannot stop in time to avoid a car on the tracks. When it hits the car, pieces of the car are thrown forward along the tracks, so moving toward the train and away from the rails is safer. When you are safe, call the number on the emergency sign at the crossing and give the crossing number, so the railroad can stop other trains.
