You drive your 16-year-old cousin to school. She sits in the back seat and says that she does not want to wear her seat belt. Under Virginia law, who must make sure that she is buckled?
Correct answer: You, because you are the driver who is transporting a minor
Why
Seat belts can double your chance of surviving a crash, and a passenger without a belt can be thrown against other people in the car. Do not start the trip until each passenger younger than 18 is secured in a belt, booster seat or child safety seat. Virginia law also requires the driver and each passenger 18 or older to wear a belt.
