Observation, Speed & SpaceStandalone practice
You follow a tractor-trailer at 50 mph on a two-lane road. The trailer blocks your view of the road ahead. What is the best action?
A follows a tractor-trailer B on a two-lane road at the stated 50 mph. Enlarged details identify the vehicles.
Correct answer: Drop back to more than 4 seconds, so that you can see farther ahead
Why
Trucks, buses and RVs have a large No-Zone directly behind them. In that area, the driver cannot see your car, and you cannot see the traffic ahead of the truck. If the truck brakes suddenly, you have no space to escape. A longer gap solves both problems.
