Licensing & Test ReadinessStandalone practice
Kai, age 16, has a learner's permit and has driven 45 hours with a parent. Only 10 of those hours were after sunset. What must Kai do before the parent can certify the practice for a license?
Correct answer: Drive at least 5 more hours after sunset
Why
Before a person under 18 can get a Virginia driver's license, a parent, foster parent or legal guardian must certify at least 45 hours of driving on the learner's permit. At least 15 of those hours must be after sunset, because night driving is harder: you see less, and glare and fatigue add risk. A false statement on this certification form is illegal. Practice on many kinds of roads and in different weather.
