Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
Your engine begins to fail on a two-lane highway. Ahead is a sharp curve. Before the curve, the road is straight and has a wide shoulder. Where should you stop?
A remains in the travel lane before a sharp curve; the straight road has a wide right shoulder.
Correct answer: On the shoulder of the straight section, with your hazard lights and headlights on
Why
A stopped car is a hazard, and other drivers need time to see it and move around it. After you stop, the guide suggests warning devices such as flares 200 to 300 feet behind the car, a raised hood, or a white cloth on the antenna, side mirror or door handle. Stand in a safe place away from traffic while you wait for help.
