Observation, Speed & SpaceStandalone practice
To practice judging distance, you pick a road sign that you think is 15 seconds ahead. You count as you drive and reach the sign at a count of 9. What does this tell you?
Correct answer: The sign was closer than you thought, so keep practicing the count
Why
The Washington guide suggests this exercise to build eye-lead time. You choose a fixed marker, such as a sign or a utility pole, that you guess is 15 seconds away, and then you count until you pass it. Good eye-lead time lets you see hazards early and gives you and other drivers more time to adjust.
