You follow a motorcycle at a safe distance on a dry highway. Rain starts, and the pavement becomes slick. What should you do?
A blue car follows a motorcycle on wet pavement as rain begins. No following-time value is shown.
Correct answer: Increase your gap, because slick roads are a serious risk for a rider
Why
Always leave a lot of room behind a motorcycle so that you can stop in an emergency. On wet or slick pavement a rider may need to brake or change position, and a rider can even fall, so add still more room. Washington law also says that a safe following distance depends on your speed, the traffic, and the condition of the road.
