Regulatory, Lane & Parking SignsStandalone practice
You drive on a highway with two lanes in your direction and pass this white regulatory sign. A slow truck is ahead of you in the right lane. What does the sign tell you to do?

Correct answer: Pass the truck on the left, then return to the right lane
Why
On a road with two or more lanes in one direction, drive in the right lane and use the left lane to pass. The law also lets you move left to let traffic merge or to prepare for a left turn. A driver who stays in the left lane and holds up traffic can get a ticket, and blocked drivers may try unsafe passes on the right. At a median or a traffic island, the same sign face tells you to keep to the right of the median or island.
