Traffic Signals & Road MarkingsStandalone practice
You drive toward a group of reversible lanes on a busy highway. Above the lane that you want to enter, a red X is lit. Above the lane next to it, a green arrow is lit. What should you do?
Two overhead lane signals display a red X and a green downward arrow. Neither lane contains a selected car or a teaching route.
Correct answer: Stay out of the lane under the red X and use the lane under the green arrow
Why
Reversible lanes, such as express lanes, change direction to add capacity at busy times, often on a fixed daily schedule. Before you enter one, read the overhead signals for each lane. A closed reversible lane can carry traffic toward you, so a wrong entry can cause a head-on crash.
