You are stopped at this steady red light in the left lane of a two-way street. You want to turn left onto a one-way street whose traffic moves to the left. No sign forbids turns on red. What may you do?
Blue A is stopped in the left northbound lane of a two-way street at a red signal. Both lanes of the cross street go left; no turn path is shown.
Correct answer: Stop, then turn left when it is clear, because the new street is one-way
Why
A steady red light means stop at the stop line, or before the crosswalk or intersection, and stay stopped until green. The only exceptions are a right turn, or a left turn onto a one-way street, after a full stop and when no sign forbids it. Before any turn on red, yield to pedestrians and to vehicles in or near the intersection, and make sure that you have room to enter traffic.
