Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You drive on a two-lane, two-way road behind a slow truck. The center markings are a solid yellow line on your side and a dashed yellow line on the other side. The oncoming lane looks clear. What should you do?
Blue A follows a silver truck. The yellow line beside A is solid, while the yellow line beside the opposing lane is dashed.
Correct answer: Stay behind the truck until the dashed line is on your side and a pass is safe
Why
Washington marks a no-passing zone with a solid yellow line on your side of the center, often near hills, curves, and intersections that hide oncoming traffic. State law makes it illegal to drive left of this marking for its full length. You may still cross it to turn left into a driveway or alley, or to enter a shared center left-turn lane.
