Your steering wheel contains a driver air bag. Where should you hold the wheel for good control and the least risk from the air bag?
An unmarked steering-wheel clock shows numbers around the rim. No hands, highlighted grip points or answer positions are shown.
Correct answer: Left hand at about 8 o'clock and right hand at about 4 o'clock, outside the rim.
Why
The handbook recommends both hands on the outside of the wheel, the left near 8 o'clock and the right near 4 o'clock. This grip gives good control and keeps your hands and arms out of the path of an air bag, which opens from the center of the wheel with great force. Also wear your safety belt, and sit with as much distance from the air bag as you can while you still reach the pedals safely.
