Regulatory, Lane & Parking SignsStandalone practice
You drive on a two-lane highway with SPEED LIMIT 55 signs. A pickup ahead of you goes 50 mph. To pass it in a short distance, you would need to go approximately 65 mph. What should you do?

Correct answer: Stay behind the pickup unless you can pass it at 55 mph or less
Why
A posted speed limit is the highest lawful speed in good conditions, and you may need to go slower in bad conditions. A pass at a small speed difference takes a long distance and keeps you in the lane for oncoming traffic for a long time. A few minutes behind a slower vehicle cost much less than the risk of a long pass.
