Safe & Responsible DrivingStandalone practice
You are on a two-hour drive home at night. You start to blink a lot, and your tires hit the rumble strip at the edge of the road. You are 30 minutes from home. What should you do?
Correct answer: Pull off at a safe place, such as a rest area, and rest before you drive on.
Why
Drowsy driving happens when a driver is very tired from little sleep, a long work shift or an untreated sleep disorder. Warning signs include yawning or blinking a lot, drifting from your lane and hitting the rumble strip. A drowsy driver can fall asleep for a few seconds without knowing it. Teen and young adult drivers have a greater risk of crashes caused by drowsiness.
