Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
A bicycle is ahead where a solid yellow no-passing line applies. What is required before you use Connecticut’s bicycle-passing exception?
Correct answer: A clear view, no oncoming traffic and at least 3 feet.
Why
Wait unless the entire pass can be made safely with adequate sight distance and no conflict with oncoming traffic. Keep at least 3 feet from the cyclist and more when conditions require it. The exception also covers other listed users and obstructions, but never permits endangering anyone. If the conditions are not met, remain behind.
