The brake pedal suddenly loses normal pressure. What should you try while keeping control?
Correct answer: Pump the pedal, downshift, ease on the parking brake
Why
Ease off the accelerator. If the service brake fails, pumping the pedal may restore pressure. Shift to an appropriate lower gear and apply the parking brake gradually if needed; release it if the vehicle skids. Keep control and seek a safe stopping place. This is brake failure, not ordinary emergency braking with working ABS, which requires firm continuous pedal pressure.
