What is the purpose of a shared center lane marked with opposing left-turn arrows and solid/broken yellow boundaries?
A three-lane two-way road has an empty shared center lane. Solid yellow lines are outside, beside the through lanes; broken yellow lines are inside, beside the shared lane. Opposite white left-turn arrows mark the shared lane. Blue A faces east and silver B faces west in their own through lanes.
Correct answer: Left turns from either direction, and permitted U-turns.
Why
Use the shared center lane for a left turn or an otherwise permitted U-turn. Watch for vehicles entering from the opposite direction. Check signs and markings and enter only when safe; do not use it to bypass traffic.
