An active sanitation vehicle displays warning lights on a road posted 45 mph. You cannot safely change to a lane away from it. What should you do?
Correct answer: Slow to 35 mph or less and be ready to stop.
Why
For a qualifying postal or active sanitation vehicle with warning lights, change to a nonadjacent lane if safely possible. If that cannot be done lawfully and safely, reduce to a reasonable speed, using the statutory 10-mph-below-limit or 25-mph condition, whichever is more, and be ready to stop. On this 45-mph road, 35 mph is the upper fallback speed; hazards can require much less.
