Passing target: 15 correct signs and 15 correct rules
A pedestrian is in a marked crosswalk on your half of the roadway. What must you do?
A and B approach a complete marked crosswalk in adjacent lanes. A pedestrian is crossing ahead, and A has room to stop well before the crosswalk.
Correct answer: Stop and stay stopped until the pedestrian is clear.
Why
Stop and remain stopped when a crosswalk pedestrian is on your half of the roadway, or is approaching and within one lane of that half, including the road onto which you turn. Your half means all lanes carrying traffic in your direction. Never overtake a vehicle stopped for a pedestrian at a marked crosswalk or an unmarked intersection crosswalk. Do not proceed until the pedestrian has cleared the protected area and the movement is safe.
