How much lateral clearance must a Hawaii driver leave when overtaking a bicyclist traveling in the same direction?
Blue car A is behind bicyclist B on a wide roadway. Both face right; no lateral clearance mark or passing path is shown.
Correct answer: At least 3 feet until safely clear of the bicycle.
Why
Leave at least three feet between the bicyclist and the right side of your vehicle, including mirrors and other projections. Maintain that separation until safely clear. If you cannot provide safe legal clearance, wait behind the rider instead of squeezing past.
