When a train signal, gate, flagger, or approaching train requires a stop, where should a driver stop?
Blue car A approaches a single-track railroad crossing with the exact US crossbuck. Red warning lights are flashing; no gate or separate stop line is shown.
Correct answer: Between 15 and 50 feet from the nearest rail.
Why
When a stop is required for a train or railway warning, stop at least 15 feet and no more than 50 feet from the nearest rail. Do not proceed until it is safe. Never enter the crossing unless there is enough space beyond it for your whole vehicle to clear the tracks.
