A school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended on a two-lane road. What must traffic approaching from either direction do?
School bus B is stopped facing left on an undivided two-lane road with red warning lamps flashing and its stop arm extended. Blue A follows B; silver C approaches from the front in the opposite lane.
Correct answer: Stop before the bus and wait until it is lawful to go.
Why
On this two-lane road, drivers in both directions must stop before reaching the bus. Remain stopped until the bus resumes motion, the bus driver signals you to proceed, or the required visual stop signals are no longer operating; proceed only with due care for children. A driver meeting a bus in the opposing lanes of a highway with at least four lanes and at least two in each direction is not required to stop for that bus. A median is not required for that exception.
